Gongo Fishing joked that they are like his “two new puppies”.
On Monday, José Luis Morales Berríos, who is better known on social media as “Gongo Fishing PR”, confirmed that he had caught Puerto Rico’s biggest snake so far.
In a video on social media, the man who hunted the animal said the reptile was 17 feet long. He also caught another snake that was 16 feet long.
“Well, folks, look what we have here. We have two reticulated pythons. These are the biggest fish I’ve ever caught. I have one here (in my left hand) that’s 17 feet long. In my other hand, the 16-foot one,” said Morales Berríos.
“They’re obese. I can’t move,” he added.
Gongo joked in the post’s caption that they were his “two new puppies”.
The reticulated python (Mayalopython reticulatus)—which is found in Asia—is the largest known snake. It has a long head, a broad snout, and a large mouth with almost 100 teeth. Its eyes are orange-yellow with shiny black pupils. It is strong, tough, and sturdy. It comes in various colors, including yellow, black, and cream. Albino pythons also exist.
It is carnivorous, meaning it eats other animals, and poses a threat to animals and pets in Puerto Rican homes. This snake typically preys on chickens, rats, iguanas, pigeons, ducks, dogs, and cats. It arrived on the island through the exotic animal market.
