This simple test detects heart failure. It only takes 2 seconds

Heart failure is one of the most serious diseases that disrupts the heart’s primary function: pumping blood around the body. This leads to severe complications and a decrease in quality of life. According to experts, the number of patients is expected to increase by almost 50% over the next decade, making the problem highly urgent for the healthcare system.

At first, the signs of the disease often go unnoticed: shortness of breath during exertion, a rapid heartbeat, fatigue, and leg swelling are usually perceived as natural manifestations of aging. However, without timely treatment, heart failure can lead to problems with the kidneys, liver, and other organs. People over 60, as well as patients with atherosclerosis or diabetes, are especially vulnerable. Doctors emphasize: the earlier the disease is detected, the higher the chances of slowing its progression.

A home test by Dr. Adam Goodcoff.

American doctor and popular TikTok blogger Adam Goodkoff has shown a simple self-test method. It does not require medical equipment or special skills.

The essence of the test: you need to lightly press your finger on the skin in the ankle area and wait a couple of seconds. If, after releasing the pressure, a noticeable dimple remains that does not disappear within two seconds, this may be a sign of edema. This symptom often accompanies heart failure. Edema typically increases in the evening after a prolonged period of standing and decreases at night when the individual is in a lying position.

It is important to remember: this method does not replace a doctor’s diagnosis, but it can be the first signal that you need to seek medical help.

What will help relieve symptoms before visiting a doctor

If you are prone to edema, experts advise making several changes to your lifestyle:

Avoid sitting for a long time with your legs down, especially on hard chairs that squeeze the blood vessels and interfere with blood flow.

Reduce your salt intake, as sodium promotes fluid retention and increases swelling.

Regularly rest lying down – at least 30-60 minutes several times a day. It is essential to keep your legs slightly higher than your body: this facilitates blood flow and reduces swelling.

These simple measures do not replace treatment, but can help alleviate the condition until you consult a specialist.
