All the royals who dare to bare their tattoos: body art on the beach

A growing number of royal family members are publicly displaying their tattoos, which can be seen as a form of body art.

Lady Amelia Windsor, a model and socialite, has displayed several tattoos. These include a delicate design on her side and tattoos on her back and lower arm. She is the first British royal family member to display her tattoos publicly. She is also the granddaughter of the Queen’s cousin, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.

In 2018, the stylish socialite exhibited a diminutive design on her rib cage, a procession of three bear cubs on her wrist, and an oblique representation of a tiger on her back while attired in a pink Chanel minidress at the Serpentine Gallery Summer Ball.

In an interview with Elle, she explained that the bear cubs represent the bond she shares with her siblings, Lady Marina and Edward Windsor.

Princess Sofia of Sweden

At her 2015 wedding to Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia of Sweden displayed a sunburst tattoo on the upper portion of her back.

She has exhibited the tattoo on numerous formal occasions, including at the 2019 Nobel Prize Awards Ceremony.  

Additionally, the princess has a butterfly tattoo on her ribcage and a discreet tattoo on her ankle. However, it has been reported that she had a tattoo on her arm removed following her engagement to Carl Philip.

Pauline Ducruet

A diver, designer, and niece of Prince Albert II of Monaco, Pauline Ducruet has publicly displayed several bold tattoos.

Her tattoos include a daisy on her lower right arm, a delicate design on her wrist, writing on the inside of her left arm, and a small tattoo at the top of her ear.

In previous interviews, Pauline has discussed her unconventional upbringing. She lived in a caravan with a traveling circus after her mother, Princess Stephanie, eloped with an elephant trainer.

In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, she elucidated that her upbringing was “random,” yet traversing the globe also afforded her “pure freedom.”

Pauline’s style is influenced by her mother, Princess Stéphanie, the youngest daughter of actress Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III, who has a reputation for displaying a variety of tattoos.

The princess, who has pursued various professions, including modeling, swimwear design, and music, has a dragon tattooed on her upper back, a flower bracelet around her wrist, and a ring on her finger.

At the age of 17, Stéphanie was in the vehicle with her mother when they were involved in a vehicular accident after navigating a hairpin curve, which ultimately resulted in her mother’s demise in 1982.

Subsequently, erroneous reports were circulated suggesting that the princess had been operating the vehicle during the collision.

King Frederik of Denmark

On Monday, King Frederik exhibited his tattoos at Nikki Beach in Porto Cervo, Sardinia.

He has a shark tattoo on his leg, which is the insignia of the Danish Navy’s elite frogman corps.

His arm tattoo, meanwhile, references the moniker “Pingu,” which he was given after completing his training to become a badged Frogman.

The Frogman Corps is a unit of professional divers and commandos whose duties include the assault of enemy ships, the execution of advanced force operations, and the performance of maritime anti-terrorism tasks, among others.

The Frogman Corps training program is renowned for its rigorous nature. Candidates are required to complete a series of challenging stages, including a scuba diving course, a survival course, and a combat swimmer course, within a nine-month timeframe. 

Since its inception, 311 individuals have been accepted into the unit.

Similarly, Prince Frederik’s grandfather, King Frederik IX, who ruled Denmark from 1947 until 1972, also acquired tattoos during his navy service. These included images of birds and dragons inked on his torso and arms.
