This is what life is really like for Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter now

The story of Anna Nicole Smith is full of drama and sadness.

On 7 September 2006, Anna Nicole gave birth to her daughter Dannielynn Birkhead. Just three days after Dannielynn was born, Anna Nicole’s son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died from taking too many prescription drugs by accident. Anna Nicole died from a combination of prescription drugs just months after her son.

Dannielynn Birkhead’s dad, Larry Birkhead, had to fight for the right to be her legal guardian after her mother’s death. Howard K. Stern, who had been working with Smith until her death, was listed as the girl’s father on her birth certificate. However, Larry said that this was a mistake.

The court then ordered a DNA test, which confirmed that Dannielynn was actually his daughter.

After Larry was officially named Dannielynn’s father, he and Howard didn’t completely split up. Instead, Howard offered Larry support.

When she was 6, Dannielynn Birkhead started modelling for Guess’s children’s clothes line, helping to launch a Guess advertising campaign that was the first of its kind.

Dannielynn also has special keepsakes from her late mother.

In 2021, Larry Birkhead took Dannielynn Birkhead, his daughter from a previous marriage to Anna Nicole Smith, to visit Anna Nicole’s hometown in Mexia, Texas. The visit was for the TV show “20/20”. Larry had a big surprise planned for Dannielynn during the trip. For years, the single dad had been keeping some of Smith’s most treasured belongings in a storage locker for Danielynn. The collection included family pictures, fancy dresses, and the dress that Smith wore when she married oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II.

Her dad has always been interested in who her friends are.

Sadly, many people want to be friends with famous people —or the children of famous people —just because of their connection to fame and celebrity. Larry Birkhead’s job is to protect Dannielynn Birkhead from people who don’t have her best interests at heart, and he is fiercely protective of his daughter. 

In a 2024 Instagram post, Larry Birkhead announced that Dannielynn Birkhead had finished high school. The father and daughter have not been very open about Dannielynn’s college plans, but they did say she took a year off between finishing high school and starting college. They’ve also confirmed that she hopes to get into modelling and acting while she’s in college.

When Dannielynn Birkhead attended the Barnstable Brown Gala in 2025, she looked exactly like Anna Nicole Smith. She wore the same black dress her late mother had worn to the Derby party more than 20 years earlier, and her hair was styled similarly.

Life comes full circle. She said she chose the dress because it was her mum’s and it was really cool.”
