Scientists have finally figured out what the ‘black hole’ in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is

Have you ever wondered if there is a secret military base hidden somewhere in our world? Well, there might be, and Google Maps is giving us some clues.

A dark mass was found in the middle of an island in the central Pacific Ocean. This quickly became popular online, as people speculated that it could be a “censored” destination. A picture of Vostok Island was shared on a popular Reddit thread about strange Google Maps discoveries. The caption said, “What the hell! This doesn’t look anything like an island.”

That user was correct. The photo didn’t look like the kind of island you usually see on Google Maps. Many people who saw the post thought it looked censored.

The first thing I thought was that someone had removed the bad parts. It’s not possible for a natural formation in such a shallow, small atoll/island to be black like that,” someone said.

Others made jokes about what the island really looked like, as if it were an object with its own personality.

Someone shouted, “God dropped his guitar pick!”

“I thought it was a hole in the leather seat,” someone else said.

Some people say that Vostok is just a usual place, and that the reason it looks censored is because of how the island actually looks. But others, who are more sensible, say that it is actually a secret island.

“What you see as black is in fact a very dark green colour; it’s a very dense forest made up of Pisonia trees,” someone explained.

“Because it’s surrounded by water on three sides, it’s a peninsula,” they added.

Oh well—we’re going to keep thinking there’s some creepy island with censorship there. There’s something strange about the photo!
