Dog Gives Birth and Vet Uncovers the Truth That They Aren’t Puppies

Vets work hard. They look after sick and injured animals, often seeing things no one wants to see. Sometimes, vets see things that even the most experienced can’t explain. Dr. Marcus Greene met Lola, a pregnant chocolate labrador retriever, and helped deliver her puppies. He discovered something unusual.

Mrs. Thompson brought Lola to Dr. Greene’s office. She was excited and nervous about her first pregnancy going well, and Dr. Greene said it would.

Dr. Greene’s vet clinic was busy, but he was experienced, so Lola was in good hands.

A dog pregnancy lasts around two months, so Mrs Thompson had been waiting a long for Lola to give birth. However, they were shocked by what they found.

Dr. Greene was surprised at how big Lola’s belly was. She was more extensive, and he had taken X-rays earlier that day, so they were in for a long day.

He told Mrs. Thompson that Lola would likely have a big litter and that they needed to be patient.

Lola had six girls and six boys, all different colors. Three were black, four were chocolate, three were yellow, and one was silver.

The team noticed something was wrong with Lola’s litter. Puppies move around and make soft noises to find their mum, but one puppy isn’t moving.

While Dr Greene tried to wake the pup, Lola surprised everyone.

She touched the puppy with her nose as if she could sense something was wrong.

The puppy took its first breath, thanks to its mother’s love. Lola kissed the puppy and sat down with her other puppies.

At their first check-up, Lola and her 12 puppies were doing well. However, Dr. Greene was confused when he spoke to Mrs. Thompson later.

Lola’s owner said half of the puppies had their eyes open, and half hadn’t. The vet went to Lola’s house to see her puppies.

Dr Greene decided to test the DNA of all Lola’s puppies.

He said the puppies were very unique, and the doctor in him wanted to know more.

Dr. Greene was working with someone else’s pet one day when his assistant brought him the lab results. After finishing his exam, he ran to open the letter.

The results confused and surprised him. He knew Miracle and Destiny were unique, but he did not know how unique.

Miracle and Destiny were monozygotic twins.

They decided to get an even more advanced DNA test done. This time, they tested Miracle and Destiny, too. They tested all 12 puppies.

The results were surprising. Lola’s puppies were conceived by superfecundation. Lola was carrying two litters of puppies at once!

One night, Lola went out and about. Mrs Thompson thought Lola had only been with one male, but it was clear she’d been with two.

If you want to own a dog, get it spayed or neutered. This is when parts of the dog’s reproductive system are removed so the dog can’t have puppies.

Puppies are cute, but spaying and neutering are essential. Spayed and neutered pets live longer and are less likely to get cancer.

Spaying or neutering your pets helps to control the world’s dog population. There are more dogs than people know what to do with. Many aren’t cared for or live in overcrowded shelters.

All dogs are unique and deserve love. Lola’s story is about a kind owner, a curious vet, and a happy discovery that changed Dr. Greene’s ideas.
